Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has sensationally opened the door to fighting Oleksandr Usyk at heavyweight.

The news comes straight from the horse's mouth - well, sort of - after the Mexican claimed he would seriously consider it during an interview with boxing reporter Mike Coppinger.

Canelo Alvarez, 31, is the current reigning undisputed king at the 168lb super-middleweight limit of 12 stone after beating Caleb Plant in 2021.

The Mexican superstar has since accepted the challenge to move up to light heavyweight and challenge Dmitry Bivol for the WBA belt after bulking up to 12st 7lb.

But Canelo, who is undoubtedly the biggest star in the sport, has also set his sights on Usyk's heavyweight titles too.

He told ESPN: "I like it. Why not? I'll fight everyone.

Canelo Alvarez will take on Dmitry Bivol on Saturday night

Usyk, 35, beat Anthony Joshua, 32, for the unified WBA, IBF and WBO belts in September.

The pair are expected to run it back in a highly-anticipated rematch later this year in Saudi Arabia on July 23.

However, Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn - who promotes Alvarez and Joshua - has proposed the idea of a blockbuster super-fight between the pair at a fixed catchweight of 201lb, which is the minimum weight for a heavyweight fight.

Hearn told JOE.co.uk: “When we talk about mindset and winning, he genuinely believes he can beat Oleksandr Usyk for the world heavyweight title.

“He said to me ‘if you can make that fight at one pound above cruiserweight - which obviously Usyk was a cruiserweight - I will beat him’.

“I find it hard not to believe him.

"Canelo comes from a tough upbringing in Mexico.

"He now has more money than he ever dreamed of and has achieved more than he ever dreamed of in the sport, yet he wants to win more than ever.

"That’s a special individual, especially in boxing.

"Sometimes, the only way someone like Canelo Alvarez or Vasyl Lomachenko gets beat is when they keep moving up in weight outside of where they should be.

"That’s maybe how Canelo Alvarez gets beat, [when] it’s a challenge too far.”
