Everton owner Farhad Moshiri could contemplate walking away from Goodison Park if the Toffees suffer the 'big blow' of relegation to the Championship, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Merseyside outfit are at serious risk of dropping out of the Premier League with the end of the season just a matter of weeks away.

What's the latest news involving Everton?

Everton's desperate bid to maintain their top flight status will continue when they head to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City tomorrow.

The Toffees may have secured an eye-catching win over Chelsea last weekend, thanks to a Richarlison strike, but they are still two points adrift of safety.

Moshiri bought a 49.9 per cent stake in Everton more than six years ago and, having become the majority shareholder at Goodison Park, appointed Frank Lampard as the club's new manager on deadline day of the January transfer window in an effort to stave off relegation.

The alteration in the dugout came as Rafa Benitez's spell at the helm came to an end just six-and-a-half months after Moshiri had handed the Spaniard the managerial reins.

There have been 10 different men in charge of Everton - whether that be permanently or on a caretaker basis - since Moshiri first headed to Merseyside in February 2016.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Moshiri?

O'Rourke believes relegation would leave Everton in a financial predicament and result in Moshiri having a big decision to make.

The journalist feels the British-Iranian billionaire could contemplate walking away from the Toffees instead of overseeing their bid to return to the Premier League.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Obviously, Everton have got big financial worries if they do go down. For the club, they probably wouldn't want to have to go and find a new owner if the worst does come to the worst and they do suffer relegation.

"Moshiri has put a lot of money into the club as well, so it would be a big blow to him to see them be relegated.

"I'm sure it's something that he might have to consider [walking away] if they do suffer relegation, but it seems like he's in it for the long haul."

Has there been any indication that Moshiri could quit Everton?

Moshiri appeared to reaffirm has commitment to Everton with a £100million capital injection in January, which also saw him take his stake in the club up to 94.1 per cent.

However, there are still question marks over whether the 66-year-old will be at Goodison Park for much longer as, according to the Daily Mail, American tycoons are lining up to take the Toffees off his hands.

The report suggests three United States-based bidders have contacted Moshiri and are looking to open negotiations as they are willing to seal a £350million deal.
