Wolves: Bruno Lage should tempt £38.7m duo to Molineux

Bruno Lage takes charge of a Premier League game for Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers should challenge their rivals for the signatures of Noni Madueke and Cody Gakpo this summer, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The highly-rated PSV Eindhoven pair have been linked with moves away from the Dutch giants following a string of impressive performances and could find themselves in the Premier League next term.

What is the latest news involving Madueke and Gakpo?

According to talkSPORT, Aston Villa manager Seven Gerrard and his assistant Gary McAllister were spotted scouting Madueke in PSV’s recent UEFA Conference League clash against Leicester City.

The report also states the Foxes are keen on the England Under-21 international, though, who departed Tottenham Hotspur’s academy back in 2018 in search of a faster route to first-team football.

Since then, Madueke, who is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, has registered 18 goals and 13 assists in 68 appearances for PSV across all competitions, claiming the Dutch Cup along the way.

Meanwhile, his teammate Gakpo has enjoyed a stellar season for his boyhood club, becoming their main attacking threat despite being just 22 years old.

In 44 outings throughout the current campaign, the Netherlands international found the back of the net on 19 occasions, setting up a further 15 strikes for Roger Schmidt’s charges.

A recent report in GOAL claimed Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have an interest in Gakpo as the race for his signature begins to hot up.

What has Holland said about Wolves?

Signing Gakpo, who is valued at £22.5m, may be difficult, but Holland believes Wolves should use their lofty position in the top-flight standings to try and lure Madueke to Molineux ahead of Leicester and Villa.

He told GiveMeSport: “There’s an abundance of talent in the wide areas. You look at Noni Madueke from PSV, who Leicester and Aston Villa are being linked with, why not go for someone like that?

“At the moment, they’re the only team that could have European football as a pulling power, so why not use that and beat their rivals to players like Madueke or Gakpo from PSV.”

What are Wolves’ current options out wide?

Wolves manager Bruno Lage currently has Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto, Chiquinho and Francisco Trincao to call upon in the wide areas.

However, Trincao is likely to return to his parent club Barcelona following the conclusion of 2021/22 following a hugely underwhelming season-long loan spell.

What shirt number does Adama Traore wear for Wolves?

Adama Traore, who has been on loan at Barca since January, is also likely to be sold on a permanent basis due to his contract expiring in the summer of 2023.

Therefore, Lage will surely want an additional option to call upon down the flanks, and either Madueke or Gakpo would be seen as a significant coup.
