Henderson leads by example on the pitch and is also a mighty fine footballer on his day.
You don’t play 442 times for Liverpool and earn 69 England caps without being able to play to a very high standard.
Henderson’s finest season with the Reds was undoubtedly 2019/20, where his magnificent midfield performances helped win the team with the title for the first time in 30 years.
The 31-year-old was deservedly named the FWA Footballer of the Year and Liverpool Fans’ Player of the Season.
He also secured a spot in the 2019/20 PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Henderson was a man on a mission that season and demanded only the best from himself and the team, as he highlighted after a crucial 1-0 victory away at Tottenham Hotspur in early 2020.
A first half goal from Roberto Firmino secured all three points for Klopp’s side, but the hosts certainly had chances to take at least a point from the match.
Liverpool were rather lucky and as a result, Henderson wasn’t exactly all smiles when he shared an embrace with his manager at full-time.
In fact, the midfielder appeared to say: “It’s not good enough, it was s**t.”
Take a look at the footage…
Video: Henderson’s reaction after 1-0 win over Spurs
Not the body language or words of a team that just took another step toward winning its first league title in 30 years. Hendo: “it’s not good enough, it was shit”. And I love it. #YNWA pic.twitter.com/ldCVoMdBYu— Joe DeMay (@JoeDeMay) January 11, 2020
Talk about not settling for mediocrity, eh?
Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk didn’t exactly look thrilled after the victory in north London either.
It’s perhaps no wonder that the current Liverpool squad are often referred to as ‘mentality monsters’.
The win over Spurs in early 2020 extended Liverpool’s unbeaten run to 38 games and they didn’t taste defeat until they travelled to Watford at the start of the March, where they lost 3-0.
They still went on to win the 2019/20 title by a whopping 18 points, though.
