Manchester United were absolutely pitiful in their 4-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion. In a truly dire performance at the Amex Stadium that brought the Red Devils crashing down towards the nadir of their season, the embarrassing statistics were rumbling in by the dozen. In fact, United's miserable showing on the south coast was such that they can no longer qualify for the Champions League and they are on course for their worst ever Premier League points tally.

Man Utd humiliated by Brighton

Marry that to five consecutive league defeats on the road for the first time since the 1980s as well as a club-worst 56 goals conceded in the Premier League and the outlook truly is damning.

However, regardless of what the Brighton defeat might have meant for United's campaign as a whole, it was just as much of an indictment of the club's predicament in isolation too.

And amongst the United fans tearing their hair out as Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard racked up the goals was none other than Tyson Fury.

Fury slams Man Utd on Instagram

One of the most famous United supporters in the world, the heavyweight champion joined millions around the world in being distinctly unamused by the events that unfolded on Saturday night.

Actually, Fury was so dissatisfied by the Red Devils' capitulation that he took to his Instagram - complete with no less than 5.6 million - to make his feelings about the match abundantly clear.

Filming a video of Brighton vs United on his television for an Instagram story, the 33-year-old wrote for his caption: “Shocking, this. We are having a shocking season. Bring on 2022-23.”

However, perhaps even more amusing and damning was his commentary on top of the video, fuming: “I tell you what, never mind the Gypsy King retiring. What you saying, United? Why don’t they f***ing retire?”

No doubt that sentiment will really quite resonate with United fans at the moment.

Tough times for Man Utd

The need for a reset at Old Trafford couldn't be any clearer and supporters will just have to hope that Erik ten Hag's arrival, married to a slew of player departures, will inspire exactly that.

From the catastrophic conclusion of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign to the missteps of Rangnick's time as interim manager, the 2021/22 season has been wall-to-wall disappointment for United.

And unlike the heavyweight champion of the world who supports them, the Red Devils are well and truly out for the count. They can only hope that better things are to come in 2022/23...
