Tottenham Hotspur managed to frustrate, restrict and smother Liverpool on their way to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday night. With Liverpool chasing three points every time they turn out in the Premier League in order to keep the pace with Manchester City, Spurs were out to spoil the party with a gritty performance. And just as they did at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the season, Antonio Conte's men caused serious damage by sitting back, soaking up the pressure and pouncing on the counterattack.

Tottenham frustrate Liverpool

In fact, at one point, it looked as though Tottenham would be claiming victory on Merseyside when 'Conte ball' went full throttle with a masterful team move that culminated in Heung-min Son scoring.

However, despite their best efforts at the other end of the pitch, Spurs couldn't prevent Liverpool from snatching at least one goal as Luis Diaz proceeded to equalise with a deflected effort.

All in all, though, it was the kind of substance-over-style performance that Tottenham can feel proud of against arguably the best team in the world, even if it might not have been pretty to watch.

And the fact that Spurs fans even feel as though there were moments of injustice from the game shows you just how competitive they were on a trip that ends in defeat for almost anyone who makes it.

Actually, that's especially the case for some Tottenham supporters who believe that Liverpool were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men heading into the final stages of the game.

Fabinho wipes out Son

That's because footage of a collision between Fabinho and Son has been doing the rounds on social media, and it's fair to say that it looks like it hurt.

With Spurs' goalscorer looking to dribble his way through Liverpool's midfield, Fabinho leaned into stop him and deliberately or not, managed to plant his elbow into his adversary's neck in the process.

In fact, slow-motion footage makes it look like quite the UFC move with the apex of Fabinho's arm landing flush in Son's neck, sending him crashing to the ground with a clear wince of pain.

The Liverpool general was slapped with a yellow card for his troubles as Tottenham happily took the free-kick, but that wasn't enough to cool the anger felt amongst certain sections of the fanbase.

But before we dive into the thoughts and reactions of the keyboard-happy Spurs fans out there, be sure to make your own mind up on the incident by watching Fabinho and Son's clash down below:

Was it a red card?

Worthy of a red card? Not for us.

While the footage most certainly looks painful and the thought of Fabinho elbowing us in the neck sounds miserable, there's not enough evidence to suggest that there was genuine malice behind it.

Does Fabinho know what he's doing by coming across and wiping Son out? Absolutely, but it's too much of a stretch to hypothesise that he was deliberately out to elbow him firmly in the neck.

However, is there an argument to be made that Fabinho should have been booked earlier in the game and therefore the Son caution should have seen him walk? That certainly has more legs.

Nevertheless, the fact that there is even a level of debate and frustration amongst Tottenham and Liverpool fans on the back of their Premier League clash shows you just how hard-fought it really was.

The moral of the story is that Spurs truly ruffled Liverpool's feathers... in much the way that Fabinho did Son's, in fact.
