Jurgen Klopp couldn't help criticising Antonio Conte's tactics after the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs sat back for large periods of the game with the intention of hitting Liverpool on the counter-attack.

The game ended 1-1, with Luis Diaz's deflected strike cancelling out Son Heung-min's 56th minute opener.

Klopp made his feelings known about Spurs' tactics after the game.

Asked about Spurs’ defending, Klopp said: “I’m sorry I’m the wrong person for that, I don’t like this kind of football. But that’s my personal problem. I think they’re world-class, and I think they should do more for the game.

“I think the game against Liverpool they had 36, 38% possession. But it’s my problem. I cannot coach it. So that’s why I cannot do it. So yes, world-class players block all the balls, really difficult. Fine, whatever. Fine, absolutely fine. I just can’t. I respect everything they do, but it’s not me.”

Jurgen Klopp called out Antonio Conte's tactics after Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham. Gary Neville is glad Man Utd didn't appoint the Italian.

Gary Neville saw the interview and he replied on Twitter.

Conte was heavily linked with the Man Utd job earlier on this season but the club decided to go in a different direction.

Neville used Klopp's comments as an example as to why United made the right decision in not appointing the Italian manager.

"I respect Conte and his football enormously but this Klopp interview gives the clear reason why he wasn’t the right fit for United," Neville commented.

Neville's tweet attracted plenty of reaction, with his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher also getting involved.

The Liverpool legend bought up Neville's comments from earlier in the season where he advocated the appointment of Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone.

Simeone is, of course, renowned for his defensive football.

But Neville hit back at Carragher and maintained his view that Simeone is a much better fit for United than Conte.

He replied: "Simone 4-4-2 aggressive style . Proper United that. Conte wing backs ?? No..."

United decided against appointing Conte and went with Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season.

The Red Devils have faltered badly since then and have missed out on qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Maybe, if they appointed Conte, they would have finished in the top four and qualified for Europe's premier cup competition.
