It's been a mental weekend of football.

The end of the Football League season never fails to be packed full of drama, as clubs make last ditch attempts to achieve their objectives.

We thought we had seen the very best of it when Bristol Rovers miraculously secured automatic promotion to League 1 after needing to better the result of Northampton Town by five goals.

Northampton won 3-1 at Barrow, meanwhile, Rovers inflicted a brutal 7-0 thumping on Scunthorpe United to pull off the incredible feat.

It was the story of the weekend... or was it?

Darlington Town snatch glory in spectacular fashion

Darlington Town fans might have something to say on that matter given the non-league team snatched the Wearside First Division title, all thanks to their 19 goal winning margin.

Well, they only actually needed an 11 goal margin, but the team from the North-East left nothing to chance.

Heading into the final game, Darlington knew they needed Chester-Le-Street to slip up in their game against Wolviston.

Should they draw, Darlington would need to make up the -10 goal difference deficit and score one more in order to seize the title.

Unlikely? Yes. Hopeless? Most certainly not.

And Darlington wasted no time in seizing the initiative, scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game.

Check out how the encounter unfolded below:
