Miami GP: Max Verstappen looked absolutely shattered after fine win on Sunday

Max Verstappen after the Miami GP

Max Verstappen delivered a superb drive on Sunday to win the Miami Grand Prix, holding off Charles Leclerc in the closing stages to take victory.

The Red Bull ace maintained his record of winning every race that he has finished this season, as he took the lead on lap 9 of the Grand Prix and didn’t look back, though he certainly had to work hard for it.

Indeed, a late Safety Car bunched the field up for the final laps of the race, and it gave Charles Leclerc in P2 a renewed chance of trying to take the victory back.

Both men pushed incredibly hard in the heat and humidity in Miami in those final moments, then, and it was obvious that the intensity of the Grand Prix had taken its toll on them post-race, with both looking incredibly tired but obviously elated with their respective podium finishes.

As they sought to supply their bodies with fresh fluid, Max was captured by the cameras breathing heavily and drinking furiously, with him even saying at the end of the Grand Prix via his car radio that he needed a drink, albeit in a rather joking fashion.

Make no mistake, then, these guys are supreme athletes and, as the adrenaline from the race began to subside, Verstappen was left before the podium ceremony to collect his thoughts and take on liquid, which left us with a great image, via Red Bull’s Twitter, of what it takes to win a Grand Prix.

Max absolutely earned this one and all the drivers deserve credit for dealing with the rigours of the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Up next in just under two weeks from now, meanwhile, is the Spanish Grand Prix – and that could be a warm affair too.
