UFC star Conor McGregor has hit out at Justin Gaethje following the latter’s defeat to Charles Oliveira at UFC 274.

In the main event of Saturday night’s pay-per-view in Phoenix, Charles Oliveira managed to successfully fend off the challenge of Justin Gaethje with a sensational submission win in the first round. While ‘The Highlight’ did push the pace and even managed to drop the Brazilian, it wasn’t enough to get the job done with ‘Do Bronx’ now moving forward as the number one contender after being stripped of his belt on the scales.

The ever-changing landscape of the lightweight division always manages to keep fans on their toes but one thing we know for sure is that the monsters at 155 pounds will keep entertaining us for many years to come.

One man who wants to continue contributing to that entertainment factor is Conor McGregor, who was actually called out twice during the main card of UFC 274.

After Oliveira managed to get the win over Gaethje, McGregor took to social media in order to pour salt into the wound of the former interim title holder.

“Gaethje is a jackass. The amount of absolute dribble he speaks as well. Over and over. A Grade A jackass! A bird brain with a bird brain manager. Two bum t**** they are. He is. A Jackass. Stevo Ocrack head in recovery should see can Johnny give him a part.”

Could we see McGregor vs Gaethje?

It certainly isn’t the likeliest option, but Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje is a distinct possibility - provided the Irishman is willing to cut back down to lightweight.

Oliveira and Michael Chandler were the two men to utter the name of ‘The Notorious’ over the weekend with Conor being sure to respond to both on Twitter. At the same time, he’s also made it clear that he’s enjoying his physical size right now, implying welterweight is where he’ll end up.

Gaethje has been linked with a rematch against either Chandler or potentially Dustin Poirier, highlighting once more that we probably aren’t going to run out of fun match-ups anytime soon.
