Manchester United are facing up to the prospect of a ‘new problem’ as there are concerns that Erik ten Hag will be unable to secure ‘genuine upgrades’ on stars set to leave Old Trafford this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Ten Hag will walk away from current employers Ajax in favour of becoming Manchester United’s new manager at the end of the season.
Who is expected to leave Man United this summer?
Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant have entered the final weeks of their respective Manchester United careers as their contracts are due to expire in the summer.
However, they are not the only stars who appear to be on their way out of Old Trafford following a disappointing campaign which will see them fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Central defenders Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have reportedly outlined their intentions to find an escape route from the red half of Manchester by telling their team-mates that they will move onto pastures new in the summer.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka could also be on his way out of Manchester United as former club Crystal Palace are interested in sealing his return to Selhurst Park, potentially on loan.

What has Dean Jones said about the situation?
Manchester United’s poor form means they are unable to finish higher than sixth in the Premier League this season.
Jones feels two stars who are set to walk away from the Red Devils have been among their best performers in recent weeks.
The transfer insider also fears ten Hag may find it difficult to genuinely improve the squad he inherits from interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “You probably have got eight or nine of this squad actually leaving for one reason or another.
“The biggest problem is that Matic and Mata have been two of their best players recently because they are two of the only players that seem to actually care.
“That’s a new problem for them to contend with, but there’s no doubt about it – there’s an overhaul coming here. It’s just how many of those players can be replaced with genuine upgrades.”
Do Man United need to undergo a squad overhaul?
Manchester United’s recent results have been of huge concern, with their challenge for a Champions League qualification spot derailing thanks to picking up just one win in their last five outings.
A 4-0 thumping at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend underlined the scale of the job awaiting ten Hag.
Only Newcastle United, Southampton and the bottom three have conceded more goals than Manchester United in the Premier League this season, so it is clear that changes are needed.
