UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has sent a warning to Conor McGregor following ridicule from the Irishman after UFC 274.
Way back in late 2017, after Tony Ferguson became the UFC interim lightweight champion, it seemed like just a matter of time before âEl Cucuyâ and âThe Notoriousâ would meet with the undisputed belt on the line. Ferguson had just defeated Kevin Lee to win the strap and immediately called out the man he dubbed âMcNuggetsâ in his post-fight interview.
Unfortunately, it never came to fruition, and upon fast-forwarding almost five years itâs clear to see that the landscape is very different.
McGregor has been out of action since breaking his leg last summer whereas Ferguson fell to his fourth straight defeat last Saturday night after being knocked out by Michael Chandler.
Conor decided to use the aforementioned McNuggets insult to poke fun at Ferguson on social media and, unsurprisingly, the 38-year-old has decided he isnât going to take that lying down.
âAhhh Thereâs my b****. Next time tag me p****. Cominâ after you & ur crew. McNugget stays with you fake, canât take what not your ya anymore thief. Still got no sauce & no balls McNuggets. Iâll see you & your crew soon comin after your gold leprechaun-Champ aka El Savvy -CSO-â
Could we see McGregor vs Ferguson?
Thereâs no definitive answer to this question but in all likelihood, weâre past the point of McGregor vs Ferguson being a viable match-up.
If Tony had been able to edge past Chandler then there definitely couldâve been a feasible route to it happening, but the best thing for Ferguson right now is for him to take some time off. Weâve seen some suggest Dan Hooker or Dustin Poirier as potential return opponents but itâs far, far too early to be discussing that given just how brutal the KO was.
On the other hand, McGregor is looking toward the third quarter of 2022 as a possible timeline for his long-awaited comeback.
Heâs said that he wants to jump back up to welterweight but given how eager fans are to see him against some of the monsters at 155 pounds, he may not be able to resist.
