Antonio Conte "loves" Oliver Skipp and sees him as a future captain of Tottenham, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Skipp has enjoyed a highly-successful first full campaign in the first-team at Spurs and was recently rewarded with a new long-term contract.

What's the latest news involving Skipp?

Despite the £18m-rated midfielder's season ending in disappointment with a pelvic injury forcing him to miss the final four months, Skipp already made his mark prior to his layoff.

As a result, he signed a new deal which will run until the summer of 2027 after establishing himself as a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, making 28 appearances in all competitions.

Skipp, who's been with the club since he was a five-year-old, was also rewarded with a significant increase in wages, with the former Norwich City loanee now set to earn around £80,000 per-week.

Despite his injury setback, Skipp will return in time for pre-season having undergone surgery on the issue in America.

Once he returns, the youngster will be hoping to re-establish himself in midfield, with Rodrigo Bentancur having taken his place in his absence.

But Jones reckons that Skipp is a massive part of the club moving forward and could one day go on to wear the armband.

What did Jones say about Skipp?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Conte absolutely loves Skipp, hence the big new contract.

"This guy is seen as a future Spurs captain, so when we read about new targets in the transfer window, it's also worth bearing in mind that this player is going to be a major part of any rebuild."

Could Skipp be the next Tottenham captain?

While Lloris signed a new two-year deal earlier this year, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2023-2024 campaign, Spurs will have to consider a successor for the Frenchman in the next couple of seasons.

If Harry Kane is still a Tottenham player, then he'll be the obvious replacement given the fact that already he's one of the main leaders in the squad and also captains his country.

But should Kane have moved on by then, which could be the case given his current contract will have expired, Skipp will surely be in the conversation to be the next captain.

Not only has he showed impressive leadership skills on the pitch at such a young age, but just under two years ago, ex-Spurs manager Jose Mourinho also tipped him to captain the club one day.
