Leeds United could sign Adama Traore in the summer and the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger is aware of interest coming from Elland Road, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Whites are embroiled in a relegation dogfight, with their Premier League status at serious risk, but it appears director of football Victor Orta and head coach Jesse Marsch are already putting plans in place as they look to bolster the squad.

What's the latest news involving Traore?

Traore is currently on loan with La Liga giants Barcelona until the end of the season, with the Catalan side holding the option to make the move permanent for £29million.

The wide-man's return to the Nou Camp came after it initially appeared as though Tottenham Hotspur were on the verge of completing his signing in January.

But, according to TEAMtalk, Leeds chiefs have already made contact with Traore's representatives after it has become clear that Wolves are not expecting Barcelona to cough up the cash needed to keep him at the Nou Camp beyond the end of the season.

The report suggests the Whites have a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old, who cost Wolves a then-club record fee of £18million when he joined from Middlesbrough in 2018, but Tottenham are also planning to reignite their plans to lure him to north London.

Leeds will reportedly up the ante in their pursuit of Traore if current Elland Road favourite Raphinha heads to Barcelona in the summer.

What has Dean Jones said about Traore?

Jones believes Traore, who is currently on a £100,000-per-week contract at Wolves, is fully aware of Leeds being admirers and also understands the winger was previously interested in securing a switch to Yorkshire.

The transfer insider feels the Whites target will be willing to enter talks with Leeds if it becomes clear that he is not wanted at Molineux or Barcelona.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "He knows they want him. I think he's been open to it in the past.

"If there's no future for him at Wolves, or Barcelona, then he will have to consider it."

Would Traore be a good signing for Leeds?

Traore boasts plenty of Premier League experience, with him making 160 appearances in the competition.

That would be seen as a plus point by the decision-makers at Leeds, but he has only managed to record eight goals and 16 assists in the English top flight, which are not particularly impressive figures for a player of his talent.

Having said that, Traore has won eight caps for Spain and, with the competition for places in Luis Enrique's squad, it shows he has plenty of talent.

However, it is unlikely that Traore will head to Leeds if they fail to maintain their Premier League status, so the final stages of the season are set to be key.
