Leeds: 'Fans could get excited' over transfer plans at Elland Road

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch in Premier League game against Manchester City

Leeds could target some “big names” this summer if they avoid relegation, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch’s side slipped into the relegation zone following their defeat at Arsenal on Sunday and are now battling for their lives heading into their final two games of the season.

But Jones reckons that if Leeds beat the drop, their fan base could be treated to an exciting summer.

What’s the latest news involving Leeds?

While Leeds will surely have huge aspirations heading into the summer, they simply must stay in the Premier League to avoid a potentially disastrous transfer window.

Not only are they at risk of losing the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, but relegation will surely ruin their chances of capturing some of their main targets.

When was Elland Road first built?

Marsch’s charges still have three games left to save their season, although the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal saw the Elland Road team slip into the bottom three for the first time since the start of October.

But Jones reckons that should Leeds do the necessary and finish above the bottom three, they could make huge strides in the upcoming window.

What did Jones say about Leeds?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I know they have got other ambitions, like some of the players that are on their long term list, thinking they were going to stay in the Premier League, were big names.

“So, I think there is a possibility that Leeds fans could yet get excited about the club really going for it if they do stay up.”

Which players could Leeds target?

Leeds’ transfer activity could depend on the futures of Phillips and Raphinha, but a summer spending spree could be on the cards regardless.

They remain admirers of USA international Brenden Aaronson, who they were strongly linked with in January, although their chances of signing him surely hinge on what division they’re playing in.

Meanwhile, 90min recently claimed that Leeds are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Matt Targett, although they might face competition from Newcastle following his productive loan spell at St James’ Park.

Leeds are also in the race for Chelsea frontman Michy Batshuayi, who’s currently on loan at Turkish outfit Besiktas, but his contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer, meaning he’s expected to leave at the end of the season.

Those three players in particular would all strengthen Leeds’ squad, but none of the trio will join if they’re a Championship club.
