Tottenham told to bring £40.5m Conte favourite to Hotspur Way

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte giving instructions to his players

Tottenham should try to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho to bolster their midfield options, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

It is understood that Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his side in the middle of the park, and Jones has suggested that Jorginho could be a good fit for the north London club.

What’s the latest news on Tottenham’s transfer plans?

The summer transfer window promises to be a fascinating one at Tottenham, with the club set to offload a number of players, while also looking to bring in suitable replacements.

The Evening Standard has reported that Conte wants to sign a midfielder with similar characteristics to Jorginho to improve his team, having praised the 30-year-old for his performances at international level last year.

Jorginho is set to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge this summer.

What has Jones said about Jorginho?

With Jorginho’s deal at Chelsea running down, Jones thinks the Blues may be tempted to move him on this summer.

He has claimed that Tottenham should test the waters and make a bid for the £40.5m-rated midfielder.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “If Conte wants a Jorginho, then go and try and sign Jorginho, because I think that Chelsea might be open to him leaving at this point.

“There’s a lot of talk of him potentially being reunited with Maurizio Sarri this summer. And I think that we will be reading headlines about him potentially leaving Chelsea.”

What could Jorginho add to Tottenham’s midfield?

The second half of Jorginho’s campaign at Chelsea has been a little disappointing, with Thomas Tuchel preferring the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at times.

However, it cannot be forgotten that he had an outstanding 2021, winning the European Championships with Italy and the Champions League at club level to earn himself a third-place finish in the Ballon d’Or.

His main strength is his ability to dictate the tempo of a game from the base of the midfield. Under Conte, Tottenham have relied almost exclusively on being a counter-attacking team, with their dynamic front three of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski flourishing.

If they want to start moving up the table and potentially challenging the like of Manchester City and Liverpool, they need to be able to mix up their game plan from time to time, and Jorginho’s ability to retain possession could add an extra dimension to the side, particularly when they have to break down opponents who are sitting deep against them.
