Wolves to have 'big conversations' with £29m star at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage reacts during Newcastle clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers are going to have to have some ‘big conversations’ with winger Adama Traore over his future, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old joined Barcelona in January on a six-month loan deal that included the option to make his stay permanent for £29 million, but he appears set to return to Molineux over the summer.

What is the latest news involving Traore?

Traore made a fast start upon his return to his boyhood club, racking up four assists in his opening five appearances across all competitions for Barca.

However, the return to fitness of Ousmane Dembele saw the Spain international drop down the pecking order at Camp Nou, and it’s claimed the Catalan giants have already decided against paying his option-to-buy clause.

According to Sport, the Barcelona hierarchy have already made it clear to Traore’s representatives that the only way he will continue playing for the club is if he arrives on a free transfer.

The report states that his agent Jorge Mendes has known this since January and is ‘working on it to make all parties happy’ as the pacey winger wants to remain in his homeland.

Swap deals involving Franciso Trincao and Riqui Puig have been mooted, although nothing is believed to be at an advanced stage, with the window not opening for another four weeks.

What has Jones said about Traore?

Jones believes it’s been a ‘really frustrating’ year for Traore on a personal level and that Wolves will be holding talks with him over his future plans imminently.

He told GiveMeSport: “They are going to have to have conversations about how they will move on from this situation. This hasn’t gone the way that he expected it to.

“It’s been a really frustrating year for him. He’s had absolutely massive ups and downs, but Wolves need this to suit them as much as it suits him. So, there are big conversations to be had at the end of the season.”

Who else could sign Traore?

Traore’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning Wolves will have to offload him ahead of next season unless he signs a new deal or risk losing him for nothing.

What shirt number does Adama Traore wear for Wolves?

A recent report from TEAMtalk claimed both Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur are ‘chasing his signature’ as a permanent switch to Barca grows ever more unlikely.

Spurs could end up having a free run at Traore, though, if Leeds are relegated from the Premier League. Jesse Marsch’s charges are in the bottom three at present and will surely not be able to lure the attacker to the club if they are in the Championship.
