Man Utd: £27m star 'wants Ten Hag talks' before deciding Old Trafford future

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on the touchline

Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka will have a conversation with incoming manager Erik ten Hag before making a decision on his future at the club, claims The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but Barclay has suggested that he is yet to make up his mind over where he will be playing his football next season.

What’s the latest news involving Wan-Bissaka?

Wan-Bissaka arrived at United in 2019 from Crystal Palace, and quickly established himself as the team’s first-choice right-back.

After two largely positive campaigns, Wan-Bissaka has been unable to find his best form this term, which has led to him losing his place in the side at various stages of the season to Diogo Dalot.

With Ten Hag set to replace Ralf Rangnick in the dugout this summer, there is some speculation that Wan-Bissaka could be sold.

The Athletic has claimed that Palace could look to re-sign Wan-Bissaka on a temporary basis, while The Metro has reported that AS Roma are interested in bringing him to Serie A.

What has Barclay said about Wan-Bissaka?

It appears that Wan-Bissaka has multiple options on the table if he does want to leave United. However, Barclay thinks he will not rush into making a decision, and will talk to Ten Hag first to figure out exactly where he stands.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “I believe Wan Bissaka’s waiting to speak to Ten Hag to see if he’s in his plans. If he’s not, which we’ll wait to see what happens on that front, then we’ll see where we go.”

Should Man United look to sell Wan-Bissaka this summer?

The 2021/22 season has been a bitterly disappointing one for United, with very few players performing at their peak. As a result, they have missed out on Champions League football for next term.

According to WhoScored, though, Wan-Bissaka has actually been their fifth-best player in the Premier League, earning an average match rating of 6.91.

He is ranked above Dalot, and he also leads the entire squad when it comes to tackles per match (2.5) and interceptions per game (1.7). This suggests that he is still a very capable defender.

On the flip side, he offers very little threat from an attacking perspective. He has not registered a single goal or assist in the league this season, and that is unlikely to impress Ten Hag.

The Dutch coach has become known for playing on the front-foot at Ajax, and he expects his full-backs to get involved in attacks.

Wan-Bissaka has clear flaws to his game in the final third of the pitch, and this may convince the incoming United boss that he needs to move the £27m-rated right-back on in his first transfer window at the club.
