Tom Bradyâs decision to retire and then unretire appears to have caused quite a few problems around the league back in the spring.
Having been in the league for 21 years after initially being drafted back in 2000, there isnât really much left for Tom Brady to achieve in the league following his recent spell with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
From his days with the New England Patriots that saw him help them win 6 Super Bowls and turn them into arguably the greatest dynasty in sports history, where he also racked up 3 NFL MVP awards, to his move to Tampa where we saw an instant impact as he won them their 2nd Super Bowl title in franchise history.
So when Brady announced his retirement back in February, it seemed as if the career of âthe G.O.A.Tâ was finally coming to an end, and you couldnât really blame him, after all that heâs achieved in the game what else was there left for him to accomplish?
Back for more
His retirement thought did not last long, as just 40 days later, the news emerged that he was coming back into the fold and would play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Clearly he wasnât happy with how last season ended, as the Bucs were knocked out of the playoffs in the divisional round of the playoffs at home against the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
His un-retirement did have some knock-on effects, for instance the fan who bought what at the time was the âfinalâ touchdown ball of Bradyâs career, paying over $500k for it, quickly had to ask for his money back, which thankfully he did.
Causing a total re-write of the league season
However the bigger effects were being felt in the league offices, with those who were making the schedule left rather annoyed with Bradyâs decision, as they had already been putting together the schedule for the 2022 NFL season.
But as NFL senior VP of broadcasting Howard Katz told the Los Angeles Times, Brady coming back meant that they pretty much had to start from scratch:
âWhen Tom Brady retired, we were concerned about the strength of the NFC package because there were so many terrific Tampa Bay games we were looking at. Then a month later he un-retires and we sort of started all over again.â
So it looks like even at this stage of his career, Brady is still finding some way to annoy the league, and you imagine that there will be a lot of people who will be very happy when he does actually retire at some point in the future.
