Tottenham didn't go to Anfield with a defensive mindset, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Jurgen Klopp criticised Spurs' tactics in the 1-1 draw on Saturday by saying that he "doesn't like this kind of football" as his Liverpool side lost ground in the Premier League title race.

But Tottenham came within 16 minutes of claiming a famous win and Bridge believes that Antonio Conte's side went with the right approach.

What happened against Liverpool?

Tottenham arrived on Merseyside hoping to not only become the first team to avoid defeat at Anfield since October, but also looking to end their 11-year wait for a victory on Liverpool territory.

The odds were stacked against Spurs, especially on the back of some of their recent performances.

But Conte's charges turned in one of their best displays of his reign by nullifying one of Europe's most potent attacks, while proving a threat on the counter-attack.

And their approach looked to have worked a treat when Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon combined to allow Heung Min Son to score his 20th Premier League goal of the season early in the second half.

Despite continuing to look dangerous on the attack, Luis Diaz's deflected strike earned Klopp's side a point, although Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg squandered an injury-time chance to snatch all three points.

Liverpool had almost treble the amount of shots to Tottenham's eight, while also dominating the possession statistics.

But Bridge has defended Conte's tactics and reckons the pattern of the game suited the visitors.

What did Bridge say about Tottenham?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think for one minute he [Conte] was shutting up shop, it's down to opinions.

"It's obvious what Spurs are good at; they like it when teams come at them because they're so good on the break and we saw right at the end that Tottenham could have even snatched it."

Was it the right approach?

You only had to watch the 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December to know how Spurs were going to hurt Klopp's side.

On that occasion, Liverpool were unable to cope with Kane and Son's quality and pace on the break and had it not been for some poor finishing on that day, they would have won the game comfortably.

Therefore, especially away from home, staying defensively solid and then catching Liverpool on the counter was always going to be Spurs' best chance of getting a result.

Some better finishing here, combined with some luck at the other end, and Conte's team could have become the first side to win at Anfield this season.
