Ronaldo, Diaz, Lukaku: PL's most expensive signings in 21/22 ranked

So many massive transfers were made by Premier League clubs in the 2021/22 season.

Romelu Lukaku and Jack Grealish were the most expensive arrivals, joining Chelsea and Manchester City respectively in £100m deals.

Liverpool splashed the cash, buying Ibrahima Konate for £36m last summer before purchasing Luis Diaz for £40.5m in January.

Arsenal spent a grand total of £150m last summer and it appears to have paid off as they look set to qualify for the Champions League.

While the biggest deal was undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo's emotional return to Man United. The Red Devils paid Juventus £20m to bring him back to the club.

But who have been the best and worst signings made by Premier League clubs in the 2021/22 season?

Using figures provided by Transfermarkt, we've taken a look at the 30 most expensive signings made by Premier League clubs in 2021/22 and ranked them from 'Signing of the season' to 'Total flop'.

Luis Díaz | Porto to Liverpool | £40.50m

Diaz has been a revelation since joining Liverpool in January. He has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and has already become one of the best players currently plying their trade in England.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the signings of the Premier League season after joining Man United last summer

Arsenal spent a lot of money last summer and it's paid off with Odegaard, Ramsdale and Tomiyasu all impressing in north London.

Cucurella was recently named Brighton Player of the Year after a fine first campaign in England, while Guehi has been a rock at the back for Crystal Palace.

United have had a dismal season but that's no fault of Ronaldo, who has been superb. He's scored 24 goals for United in 2021/22. They'd be a lot worse off without him.

White has been a major reason why Arsenal's defence has improved so much this season.

Konate has not featured as much as he would have wanted, playing just nine Premier League games, but he's been solid when called upon.

Guimarães looks set to be part of Newcastle's side for many years to come.

These four players have all performed well in their first campaign in England.

Mykolenko has helped fill the void of Digne, who departed for Aston Villa in January and has performed well himself.

Aston Villa spent big after receiving £100m for Grealish, but their signings have largely been disappointing.

They smashed their transfer record to sign Buendia but he's contributed to just nine Premier League goals in 2021/22. Ings, meanwhile, has hit the back of the net just seven times.

Varane and Sancho have both failed to live up to expectations at United, as has Grealish at Man City.

Newcastle paid £27m for Wood in January but he has scored just twice in 16 matches.

These six players have had a nightmare campaign for their new clubs.

Bailey has managed just 757 Premier League minutes this season, contributing to three goals in that time.

Gil failed to adapt to English football and was shipped out on loan to Valencia in January.

It took just a few months for Lukaku to complain about Thomas Tuchel's tactics at Chelsea. He could well depart the club this summer. If he does, the figure will be considerably lower than the £100m they paid for him.

James has been largely ineffectual for Leeds, who are in real danger of relegation. While Soumare has been Leicester's worst player that has played over 1000 minutes this season, per WhoScored.
