A lot of Rangers’ ‘experienced’ stars are still ‘going to have to consider’ leaving the club despite their success this season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

It could be an extremely busy summer at Ibrox, with many of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s charges either out of contract in just a few months or a years’ time.

What is the latest news involving Rangers?

Rangers made history by defeating German outfit RB Leipzig 3-2 on aggregate over two memorable encounters to qualify for the Europa League final earlier this month.

It will be the first time the Glasgow giants have taken part in a European showpiece event since 2008 and presents the opportunity to qualify for next season's Champions League group stage.

The Gers are also set to take on Hearts in the Scottish Cup final just three days before they travel to Seville to face Eintracht Frankfurt for the Europa League crown.

Therefore, despite it being all but confirmed that fierce rivals Celtic are set to snatch away their Scottish Premiership crown, it could still be a very memorable campaign for everyone associated with Rangers.

But things are a little less settled and exciting off the pitch as the futures of many key players in Van Bronckhorst’s setup remain firmly up in the air.

What has Jones said about Rangers?

While Jones believes these are ‘extremely exciting’ times for the younger members of Rangers’ squad, he still believes the more mature figures will be contemplating a future away from the club.

In an exclusive interview, he told GiveMeSport: “I think for younger players in that Rangers squad, this is going to be extremely exciting.

“For the more experienced ones, a lot of them are at a key point in their career when they are still going to have to consider a transfer this summer.”

Who could leave Rangers?

Steven Davis, Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun are all set to become free agents when their existing deals expire at the beginning of June, although Rangers have the option to extend the latter's stay by another 12 months.

The contracts of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack and Filip Helander are set to expire in the summer of 2023, though, meaning decisions will also have to be made over their futures.

It remains to be seen who Rangers will manage to retain ahead of next season, but either way, it will surely be a busy time for Van Bronckhorst and co.
