Incoming Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will be looking to give Thomas Tuchel a transfer war chest, claims insider Pete O'Rourke.

While O'Rourke is not too sure if the west London club will spend the kind of money they did under Roman Abramovich going forward, he still expects Tuchel to be backed this summer.

What is the latest news involving Chelsea?

A consortium led by LA Dodgers part-owner Boehly is set to take over Chelsea possibly before the end of the month.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club," the Blues' official website recently announced.

According to the Evening Standard, the Premier League are confident that Chelsea's takeover will be completed before their May 31 deadline as the Europeans champions wait for government approval and an owners and directors’ test to be carried out.

The above comes after Abramovich announced in March that he would be selling the club, with the oligarch recently being sanctioned by the UK government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

What has O'Rourke said about Boehly, Tuchel and Chelsea?

O'Rourke thinks Boehly will look to back Tuchel in the upcoming transfer window, with defence likely to be a priority for the German given the impending departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "I think there will be certain areas of the team that Thomas Tuchel will be looking to strengthen, especially in defence with Rudiger and Christensen both leaving, but I'm not sure if they'll have the funds that they did when Abramovich was the owner.

"But yeah, still competitive, Chelsea, and I'm sure Todd Boehly will be hoping to give a war chest to Thomas Tuchel this summer to improve the squad."

Who could Chelsea sign this summer?

Regarding defenders, Sevilla's Jules Kounde is almost certain to be Chelsea's priority. They pursued him last year and he still looks to be on their shortlist.

According to multiple outlets, including the Evening Standard, the Frenchman remains a target for the Blues.

Further forward in midfield, West Ham's Declan Rice is the No.6 the European champions seem to really want, with The Telegraph reporting on their long-term interest in the England star last month. However, with the Hammers' slapping a £150m price tag on him, it is not a straightforward deal.

All in all, with Rudiger and Christensen set to leave Stamford Bridge, Tuchel will want Chelsea to sign someone like Kounde and possibly another centre-back on top of him, while there is also no doubt that the 48-year-old would welcome a midfielder of Rice's quality. The question is now, will Boehly be able to deliver?
