Man Utd: £350k-a-week star tipped for 'big impact' under Ten Hag at Old Trafford

Next Man United manager Erik ten Hag acknowledging fans

Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho will be a player to watch under incoming manager Erik ten Hag next season, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ten Hag is due to arrive at Old Trafford this summer, and one of his main tasks could be figuring out how to get the best out of Sancho.

How has Sancho fared this season?

Having joined United in a £73m deal from Borussia Dortmund last summer, a lot was expected of Sancho in his first year back in England.

He got off to a disappointing start, though, registering just a single Premier League goal by the end of January.

It looked like he may have turned a corner when he scored twice and provided three assists in six league appearances in February and March.

However, he has failed to deliver a goal contribution in his last five matches, and has missed three games on the trot due to tonsillitis, summing up what has been a difficult campaign for the 22-year-old.

What has O’Rourke said about Sancho?

O’Rourke has admitted that Sancho has been underwhelming this year, but he is intrigued to see how the £350,000-a-week winger fares under ten Hag in 2022/23.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “I think it’s going to be an interesting watch to see what ten Hag does with Jadon Sancho. He probably hasn’t lived up to expectations this season, I think it’s fair to say.

“We’ve seen glimpses of what he can do. He will be looking to have a bigger impact himself next season. He’ll have one year under his belt at the club, so he’ll be a bit more settled.”

Will we see the best of Sancho under ten Hag next season?

Sancho has struggled to get to grips with the Premier League this season, but he will be desperate to kick on in his second campaign at United.

Ten Hag has a reputation for getting the best out of his wide players, with Hakim Ziyech flourishing under him before he moved to Chelsea in 2020. The Moroccan wide man was directly involved in 130 goals in 165 goals during his time at Ajax.

More recently, Brazilian attacker Antony has also performed well at the Dutch club, helping Ajax to another league title this term.

Ten Hag’s front-foot style of play should suit Sancho, and allow him to rediscover his best form.

Of course, he will need to fight off competition from the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga for his place in the team, but if he can get a lengthy run in the side, he may finally begin to show everyone what all the fuss was about when he first moved over from Dortmund.
