Manchester United target Christopher Nkunku ‘might think he’s too good’ for the struggling club at this moment in time, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form for RB Leipzig throughout the current campaign and has been linked with a move away from the Red Bull Arena as a result.

What is the latest news involving Nkunku?

According to German outlet Sport Bild, Leipzig chiefs would be reluctantly willing to sanction the sale of Nkunku if their €75 million (£64m) valuation is met this summer.

The report states that the France international’s boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain are eager to recapture his services, while United are also listed as potential suitors.

And it's little surprise that Nkunku, who Goal described as "unstoppable", is attracting the attention of some of European football’s biggest clubs following an outstanding 2021/22.

In 49 appearances across all competitions, the versatile star has registered 34 goals and 19 assists despite Leipzig struggling to hit their previous heights both domestically and across the continent.

Incoming United manager Erik ten Hag is expected to oversee several changes during his first transfer window at the helm, and Nkunku could be a valuable addition to his new-look side.

What has Jones said about Nkunku?

When asked if the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Nkunku could arrive at Old Trafford, Jones claimed that the former is unlikely to sign before stating that the latter is ‘most likely’ to end up at PSG.

He told GiveMeSport: “I don't think Ekitike is very likely. And Nkunku they should be interested in, but I'm not sure how interested he will be in Manchester United.

“He's going to have to look at that project and say, ‘Are they good enough for me?’ This is a player that is on the verge of going right to the top of the game. There are big clubs looking at him this summer.

“I personally think he's most likely to end up at PSG. But I’ve got a feeling he might think he’s too good for Manchester United at this point.”

Do Man Utd need another forward?

According to ESPN, Ten Hag is set to prioritise the signing of a new striker when the market reopens for business as otherwise, he could be short of options next term.

Edinson Cavani is set to leave on a free transfer, Anthony Martial’s future looks almost certain to be away from Old Trafford while Mason Greenwood is unavailable due to an ongoing police investigation.

Therefore, a new source of goals will be required at United if they are to challenge for a place in the top four, and Nkunku could be the perfect player to provide it.
