Arsenal: Arteta will make 'at least five' new signings at the Emirates

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta celebrates on the touchline

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be handed up to five new signings this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The north London club are set to return to Europe next season, so the Spaniard will no doubt want reinforcements, and Jones is confident that he will get just that.

What is the latest transfer news involving Arsenal?

One transfer line currently coming out of Arsenal is that the Gunners want to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

The 25-year-old’s agent recently told Fabrizio Romano: “We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing.

“There are 6 more clubs interested in Gabriel – he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, GOAL has claimed that Arsenal have already launched a €50m (£42m) bid for Jesus, which is close to City’s €60m (£51m) valuation, so a deal certainly does look like it can be done.

What has Jones said about Arsenal’s transfer plans?

If Arsenal do manage to sign Jesus, four more players could possibly join the Brazilian at the Emirates, with Jones telling GIVEMESPORT that he expects the Gunners to make up to five signings for the 2022/23 season.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: “Arteta will be getting at least five new faces in there this summer, and they are to improve the level of this team. This isn’t for squad players; this is for players that are competing for spots in that first XI because that’s what Arsenal need.”

Do Arsenal need to be active in the transfer window this summer?

They have to, otherwise they risk regressing after a season where they have made so much progress under Arteta.

Positions in Arsenal’s starting XI need to be addressed, while Arteta will just want a bigger squad in general since the Gunners will be playing in Europe again next term.

Both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are set to leave the club as free agents in the summer, so bringing in at least one striker is a must, with Jesus seemingly the No.1 target.

Do you know this obscure player Arsenal signed in the January transfer window?

The Premier League outfit could also probably do with the addition of a new wide man, especially with Arteta not really trusting Nicolas Pepe, who has started less than 10 Premier League games this season.

In terms of options, Jesus’ City team-mate Raheem Sterling could be a possibility, with The Telegraph claiming that Arteta is also eyeing up a reunion with the England star.

If Arsenal can sign Jesus, Sterling and a few more other players on top of the City duo, it could be their most productive transfer window in years.
