Has the greatest piece of commentary in Premier League history been unearthed?Southampton 1-3 Chelsea isnât a game that most football fans will remember but one commentatorâs reaction for Kevin Phillipsâ 69th-minute goal needs to be heard to be believed.Phillips scored 10 Premier League goals during that campaign, including one against the team that won the title at the end of the season. When Phillips netted to make the score 2-1, setting up an intriguing final 20 minutes in the process, one Fox Sports commentator providing commentary for a non-English speaking audience decided to go rogue. After the standard elongated âGooooooooooooooool!â thatâs customary in South America, the Rolling Stonesâ classic song â(I Canât Get No) Satisfactionâ began to play. But instead of Mick Jagger and Keith Richardsâ lyrics, the commentator spent the next 40 seconds singing about Southamptonâs No. 7.Watch the clip here:
Thatâs absolutely incredible.
Did he have the song pre-prepared? Was he a huge Kevin Phillips fan? So many unanswered questions.
And why have we never heard Martin Tyler or Peter Drury suddenly burst into song like this over the past three decades?
Letâs check out some of the best reaction to the video:
The same commentator that sang 'Gol de Scholes'
It seems the commentator in question is the same guy who famously sang âGol de Scholesâ to âEye of the Tigerâ during a Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool in October 2006.
The commentator is understood to be Juan Manuel Pons, who also goes by the name of âBambinoâ Pons.
Mr Pons, we salute you!
