UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson has revealed the scary impact of his knockout loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 274.

For most of the first round in Phoenix, Tony Ferguson appeared to be back to his old self. He was landing shots, picking his moments, and generally causing Michael Chandler all kinds of problems.

Unfortunately, once the bout entered the second round, that all came crumbling down as ‘Iron Mike’ landed a picture-perfect front kick on the jaw of ‘El Cucuy’.

The defeat dropped the 38-year-old to his fourth straight setback inside the Octagon, leaving many to wonder what’s next for him.

While he seems to be recovering, a recent Instagram post from Ferguson himself highlights just how unsettling things got over the weekend.

“I took a big kick to the dome this past Saturday inside that Octagon… It put me out for a long time. It was a scary feeling not remembering anything from beginning of second round all the way until I walked up to the ambulance. I thank God EVERYDAY I made the trip back to reality.”

“All jokes aside, I didn’t mean to scare you all, should have done thing different like keep my “hands up & chin down”. My fault I lost, props to Chandler for the highlight real finish. I have many things to work on, not just competing. One battle at a time. I’m not perfect by any means, but I’ll continue to strive for it in-N-out of the practice room.”

“Someone wise once told me “Perfect practice makes perfect”. There’s always more to learn & being coachable is big. I’m beyond grateful my movements are ok, my bones are intact & except for a slight headache in the mornings I’m glad to be back doing what I love.”

What’s next for Tony?

Some time off is certainly needed for the veteran before he can even think about stepping back into the cage.

From there, it’s anyone’s guess as to what direction he’ll head down. A bout with Dan Hooker has been suggested but for now, he needs to clear his head and reflect on how much longer he wants to keep competing.
