Crystal Palace's hopes of re-signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer could be dealt a blow due to interest in the defender from abroad, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Wan-Bissaka left the Eagles to join Manchester United in 2019 after coming through the ranks at Selhurst Park, and he has been linked with a return to the south London club.

What's the latest news involving Wan-Bissaka?

The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford in the second half of the season, starting just six league games since the start of 2022.

With Erik ten Hag set to replace Ralf Rangnick in the dugout, the Dutchman is expected to assess his squad in the coming weeks, and Wan-Bissaka could be deemed surplus to requirements.

If Wan-Bissaka does become available, it has been reported by The Athletic that Palace would be interested in bringing him back to the club on loan next term.

What has Bridge said about Wan-Bissaka?

Bridge has revealed that he had very high hopes for Wan-Bissaka when he first burst onto the scene, but the full-back has failed to live up to expectations.

Still, Bridge expects there to be interest in the £90,000-a-week star this summer, and he feels that clubs from abroad could try to land him on a temporary basis.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge said: “I thought when I first saw him at Palace that he was going to be England’s right-back for the next 10 years, but it just didn’t turn out that way. He’s very limited in certain areas. So, I don’t know whether it would be a loan for him.

“I’ve heard a few murmurs that there’s clubs abroad that would like to take him for a year, so it’s a bit of a wait and see with that one.”

Would it be a big blow for Palace if they miss out on Wan-Bissaka?

Patrick Vieira currently has two experienced professionals in Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward to cover the right-back position at Palace, but the former is out of contract at the club next month.

It also seems that this may be a potential weak area in the back four right now as Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell have made their positions their own this season.

Therefore, bringing in a right-back ought to be a priority, and Wan-Bissaka has proven over time that he is a capable defender at the highest level.

As Bridge alluded to, he does have his limitations when in possession, but he leads the statistics at United this season when it comes to tackles and interceptions per game, as confirmed by WhoScored.

This highlights that he could be a useful asset to Palace, and it would be frustrating for the club if they missed out on him in the upcoming transfer window.
