A huge weekend lies in wait for Chelsea, with both teams in FA Cup final action at Wembley. 

Emma Hayes’ side are the current holders of the trophy, and are aiming to win the double, having lifted the Women’s Super League title for the third successive time last Sunday. 

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel’s team lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier this year and have one last chance to claim some silverware this season. 

For the first time ever, both the men’s and women’s finals will be played across the same weekend and Chelsea stars Mason Mount and Erin Cuthbert are relishing the occasion. 

Mount and Cuthbert ‘buzzing’ for finals 

Speaking to BBC Sport, Mount and Cuthbert opened up on what it felt like to be playing in a dometic cup final. 

“I’m buzzing,” Mount stressed. “We obviously know the history of playing in a final against Liverpool this season and it didn’t go our way. So now is an opportunity to right that wrong and we’re ready for it.

“I’ve spoken a lot about how much it would mean to me to win a domestic trophy, so now is an opportunity to really achieve it and go for it.

“To win two FA Youth Cups and then go on to lose two finals with the first team is heartbreaking, so hopefully it’s third time lucky.”  

Meanwhile, Cuthbert emphasised that Chelsea Women’s clash with City is going to be far from easy. The Blues may well be defending champions, but the Citizens beat them in the Continental Cup earlier this season. 

“I think everyone has seen the run Man City has been on,” Cuthbert said. “They had a horrible start to the league and could never claw that back, but they’re on an incredible run of form. 

“They beat us in the Continental Cup final only a couple of months ago, so we're under no illusions that it’s going to be a really tough game and will come down to who performs best on the day.” 

Mount also touched on how momentous it would be If both sides manage to win.

“It would be massive. Obviously, what we’ve achieved this season, what the women have achieved, it’s brilliant to see us both doing big things, and now it’s on the same weekend that we can achieve bigger things. It would be such a special weekend if we could both do it.” 

A combined open-top bus parade? 

Asked if Chelsea Women would be watching the men on Saturday, Cuthbert explained that they wouldn’t be at Wembley, but would be watching the game nonetheless. 

“The way it’s worked out is we wouldn’t be able to get to Wembley in time. It’ll mess us up in terms of dinner and preparation and stuff, but we’re leaving a little earlier so we can get to the team hotel close to Wembley and watch the game.” 

Mount was then asked if Tuchel’s side would do the same thing on Sunday, to which Cuthbert interjected: “You’ll be celebrating,” she stressed. 

“Yeah, but I will be watching,” Mount exclaimed. “ I’ll be looking at the score and making sure I catch up with it, don’t worry.”

The English midfielder then told Cuthbert: “If we win, you have to win [as well.] In response, Cuthbert joked: “Open top bus for both of us?” 

The interviewer also asked if Chelsea’s men and women would celebrate together in the case of both teams winning. 

“Why not,” Mount stated emphatically. 

“Ok, if he says ‘why not’ then I’m in,” responded Cuthbert. “You cannot be saying this on video and not backing it up.” 

Mount then joked back: “Where was my call-up last night, I was ready waiting,” referring to Chelsea Women’s WSL title triumph last weekend.

This prompted Cuthbert to humourously deny any suggestion of a celebration party. 

“I don’t what you’re talking about,” she said. “We don’t go out, we don’t party.” 

When are the finals? 

Both finals will be shown live on BBC this weekend. 

Saturday’s match between Chelsea and Liverpool kicks off at 16:45.
