A r/UFC thread containing an image of a currently very bulked up Conor McGregor with the caption ‘This man is not making 155 anytime soon’ has got MMA fans sharing their opinions on his future.

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight double champion is on the road to recovery following a gruesome broken leg injury in his first round TKO loss to Dustin Poirier on July 10, 2021.

This ruled ‘Notorious’ out from competition inside the Octagon for quite some time and many fans and experts alike have been speculating what the Irishman could do next.

As confirmed by UFC president Dana White, the Dubliner isn’t due to be cleared for action until around autumn time this year.

According to the man himself, he has big ambitions to step up to the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Speaking in an interview with TheMacLife in March, McGregor said: “Myself versus Usman for the 170-pound title in my comeback fight is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute.

“Why cut the weight? I’ve already won the 155-pound title. I got myself to a lightweight frame, but you know, I’m big now. I feel big. I feel strong. I feel healthy. I’m coming back from a gruesome injury. I don’t want to be depleting myself. There should be no need to deplete myself.

“And I feel confident against Usman – a jab happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he going to do? Where’s the danger here? I don’t see danger. No one has ever obtained three titles in three divisions like I will do if I make this fight.”

However, users on the Reddit thread have said that McGregor could lose his advantages should he continue to bulk, with one fan pointing out his weight increase as a potential problem.

“Conor’s biggest issues: gassing out and prolonged grappling.

“Conor’s biggest gifts: hand speed and relative power in the division.

“Conor’s solution: beef up and going up in weight, losing his advantages and worsening his disadvantages.”

Other potential fights have been slated for ‘Notorious’ in the welterweight division against Jorge Masvidal, as well as in the lightweight division with Charles Oliveira showing interest in a bout with the Irish sensation.

It has also been said that we could see him up against Poirier for a fourth and final time, which would allow them to settle their feud once and for all.

A trilogy fight with Nate Diaz could also be on the cards, which would undoubtedly entertain and grab lots of buys.
