Sadio Mane had the chance to be the hero in Liverpool's FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

The game went to penalties after neither side could find a winner in the opening 120 minutes.

Cesar Azpilicueta's miss in the shootout gave Mane the opportunity to strike the winning penalty for his side.

However, he was denied by international teammate, Edouard Mendy.

Fortunately for him, his failed penalty didn't prove costly.

Alisson Becker saved Mason Mount's effort in sudden death, giving Kostas Tsimikas the opportunity to score the winner.

The Greek defender stepped up with confidence and he dispatched his penalty with aplomb.

Mane even admitted that he was happy for Mendy after he saved his penalty.

Speaking to Anfield Watch, he said: "I knew left isn't his best side so that's why I tried to put it there but I missed it. I'm happy for him, but I'm also happy for myself because we won the trophy!"

Mane is a world-class player, but he's an even better sportsman.

Klopp, meanwhile, joked that he was to blame for Mane's miss from 12 yards.

He said, per the Daily Mail: "Sadio's penalty is 50 per cent my responsibility. I told him the goalie knows exactly what you normally do so do it the other way round. How often in my life is it better to shut up!"
