Patrice Evra: When even Neuer 'celebrated’ his screamer for Man Utd vs Bayern in 2014

Patrice Evra will always be fondly remembered at Manchester United.

The Frenchman joined the club in 2006 and went on to spend eight-and-a-half brilliant years at the club.

Evra played 379 times for the Red Devils and helped them win 14 trophies.

He was a brilliant defender but he rarely got himself on the scoresheet, scoring just 10 times in a red shirt.

While he didn’t score many, his 10th and final goal for the club was an absolute scorcher.

Evra’s goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2014 remains one of the greatest strikes in the competition’s history.

The tie was finely poised at 1-1 going into the second half of the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

United then took the lead after a screamer from Evra.

The ball fell to Evra outside the box and the Frenchman crashed an unstoppable effort which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and into the net. Watch it below…

Manuel Neuer got absolutely nowhere near it.

Many fans, as well as Evra, have joked about Neuer’s reaction to the goal.

Neuer jumped up to his feet and began running towards Evra, along with many United players.

Of course, he was just going to retrieve the ball so Bayern could restart the game as quickly as possible.

But it looked as if he was rushing to celebrate with United’s players, an idea Evra agrees with.

He wrote on Twitter in 2018: “Even Neuer wanted to celebrate with us look at the way he is running with us”.

Unfortunately for Evra and United, his goal was all in vain as Bayern scored three times in the final half-an-hour to progress.

Still, it remains one of the greatest goals in Champions League history.

It’s one that Evra, and maybe Neuer, will never forget.
