Arsenal fans will not want another transfer saga like the Dusan Vlahovic one back in January, says journalist Dean Jones.

After missing out on the Juventus striker, the north London club are now being linked with a host of other forwards - including Napoli's Victor Osimhen - and Jones does not want to see supporters being handed any more false hope.

What is the latest transfer news involving Arsenal?

According to Sport Mediaset, Arsenal are the outfit most interested in buying Osimhen, who is valued at £60m by the CIES Football Observatory, this summer.

Signing the Nigerian, however, is not going to be easy, with the Italian outlet claiming that Napoli are seeking a fee of over €105m (£85m).

As well as Osimhen, Arsenal are also keen on Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus. His agent Marcelo Pettinati recently told Fabrizio Romano that he has held talks with the Gunners over the Brazilian possibly moving to the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta's need for a new No.9 is great after watching Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join Barcelona. It has left him with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, who are now approaching the end of their contracts.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Arsenal must avoid a repeat of what happened with Vlahovic and actually land their main striker target this time around.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "Arsenal fans won't want false hope at this stage. They don't want another Vlahovic, where they're hearing about Osimhen all summer and then it doesn't happen.

"If they're hearing about Richarlison or [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin or Alex Isak, week after week after week, then that player then needs to be delivered. There can be no more false hope. This has to be the real deal."

Which striker should Arsenal sign this summer?

If it is a toss up between Osimhen and Jesus, then the latter probably makes more sense.

There is no denying that Osimhen, who Jones has called unbelievable in the past, is a very talented forward, with the 23-year-old scoring 18 goals in all competitions this season. However, it is an eye-watering price tag on his head, especially compared to Jesus', which is believed to be €60m (£51m) at most.

The Brazil international, of course, also has plenty of Premier League experience underneath his belt, while his versatility arguably makes him a more attractive proposition, too.

Ultimately, Arsenal fans would probably take either striker, especially given the situation the club finds itself in. However, Jesus looks like the better and more realistic option. With him, the Premier League outfit should not face another Vlahovic saga.
