Manchester United signing Christopher Nkunku would be a "no-brainer", according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Leipzig attacker has emerged as one of the Red Devils' top targets this summer and O'Rourke believes that he would be a fine addition for Erik ten Hag.

What's the latest news involving Nkunku?

According to German outlet Sport Bild, United are one of several clubs chasing Nkunku, who was described as 'special' by teammate Tyler Adams, while ex-Arsenal striker Thierry Henry also waved lyrical over him earlier this season.

The in-demand 24-year-old has scored an incredible 34 goals and laid on 20 assists for his teammates to help Leipzig qualify for the Champions League and also reach the last four of the Europa League.

Seven of those goals came in Europe's elite competition, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in the group stages despite his side losing 6-3.

As a result, he has established himself as one of the top attacking midfielders in European football, which is why the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle are all also monitoring his progress.

The report from Sport Blid says that Nkunku would cost United around £63m, which would make him their sixth most expensive player ever, and O'Rourke reckons that with the Old Trafford side hoping to improve on their wretched campaign under Ralf Rangnick, signing him would be a "no-brainer".

What did O'Rourke say about Nkunku?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Nkunku has had a great season goalscoring wise and his stats are right up there with the best in Europe, so he would be a real no-brainer for me if they can go and sign someone like that."

Would Nkunku be a good signing for Manchester United?

With the Red Devils on course for their worst goalscoring season in the top-flight since 2016-2017, having scored just 57 goals in their 37 games, the France international would be an outstanding first signing for Ten Hag.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes aside, no other player has scored more than five goals in the league, while Nkunku found the net an incredible 20 times from midfield in the Bundesliga.

Not to mention his impressive creativity, with more assists (20) than any other United player, despite playing for a Leipzig side that have struggled for much of the season, his creativity could allow players like Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford to flourish.

Furthermore, while Nkunku spent the majority of the season playing centrally, he can play in a number of positions, which could prove important with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial all set to depart this summer.
