Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has been a "liability" at Elland Road this season, according to the Daily Mirror's David Anderson.

Coming from Barcelona, much was expected of the 25-year-old, but Anderson does not feel that he has brought the bit of class and leadership fans would have been hoping to see.

How has Firpo fared at Leeds?

Firpo's debut campaign at Elland Road has probably been one to forget.

The left-back has picked up a few injuries, sidelining him at times, and when he has been fit to play, he has had his struggles.

When it comes to defending and discipline, there is work for Firpo to do, with the ex-Spain U21 international collecting 11 yellow cards in total.

Still, it is just his first season in England, while Leeds as a whole have been poor. If Jesse Marsch's men stay up and perform better in the next campaign, perhaps Firpo will be in a better position to succeed.

What has Anderson said about Firpo?

Anderson would have liked to have seen more from Firpo this term, believing the £13m star should have brought a host of good qualities with him after joining from a club like Barcelona.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Mirror reporter said: "All he seems to do is get booked all the time. I think he's up to 10 yellow cards or something. You don't expect that from a player coming from Barcelona; you expect a bit of class, a bit of maturity, a bit of leadership, and he's provided none of that, really.

"I think he's been a big let-down. You're looking around that changing room thinking, 'Who's going to step up and do it for us now?' And you'd be looking at someone like him, but he's just not. In fact, if anything, he's been more of a liability for Leeds."

Should Leeds replace Firpo?

It is early days. Marsch should probably consider giving him at least the first half of next season to prove himself.

That being said, Leeds could still do with bringing in a new left-back. They are light in that position and £55,000-a-week ace Firpo has not always been available in the current campaign.

The same goes for the right-back position, with Luke Ayling having also missed quite a few games due to injury. Ultimately, this summer, the Whites should strengthen those areas of their squad, especially if they do go on to secure Premier League safety.
