Tottenham have a chance of convincing Lautaro Martinez to join them because of his relationship with Antonio Conte, believes Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Inter Milan striker is currently being linked with a move to Spurs, though north London rivals Arsenal are thought to be more keen at this moment in time.

What is the latest news involving Martinez?

Cesar Luis Merlo recently reported that Martinez is happy at Inter and only plans to leave the San Siro if he is asked to.

The above comes after talk about both Tottenham and Arsenal being interested in the 24-year-old.

According to The Times, the Gunners want to strike an agreement with Inter this summer for their talisman in a deal that could cost up to £70m.

The same outlet claims that Tottenham also have Martinez on their radar but have other priorities right now.

What has Brown said about Martinez to Tottenham?

For Brown, Conte, who managed Martinez during his time at Inter, could be the key to bringing the Argentine to Hotspur Way should the Premier League outfit decide to make a serious push for him in the upcoming transfer window.

When asked if Tottenham could convince Martinez to join them, the Daily Star reporter said: "I don't see why not. He seemed to enjoy playing for Conte when Conte was in Italy. They had quite a good relationship, as far as I'm aware.

"While he's quite a hard taskmaster, there's also a bit of fun about him as well. He's got a sort of cheeky glint in his eye and he does do things in training that make players laugh. He's kind of a friend as well at times."

Why do Tottenham and Arsenal both want Martinez?

Martinez is capable of scoring goals and has proven as much this season, scoring 21 times in Serie A for the Nerazzurri.

It follows an impressive 2020/21 campaign, where the Argentina international was also able to surpass the 15-goal mark in Italian football's top division.

Overall, he is just a very good forward, with compatriot Lionel Messi hailing him for being "very complete".

If he really is not a priority for Tottenham, then they should make him one. Martinez is not the kind of striker you want to miss out on, especially to your local rivals who you are likely to be battling with next season for a spot in the top four.
