It was recently confirmed by Bethesda that Starfield would be delayed until 2023 to give more time for development.
According to a recent leak, it appears as though it may well be an issue with one of the current Xbox consoles that are causing the biggest delay.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S can essentially play the same games, but the latter’s less powerful hardware may be causing an issue.
Here’s everything you need to know about the leaks and rumoured reason that Starfield is being delayed until 2023.
Bethesda confirmed the following in a statement sent out on social media on Thursday 12th May 2022 as to why the game had to be delayed:
“We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023. The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.
“We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating.
“We can wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon. Thank you for your support.”
A thread on the r/GamingLeaksandRumours Subreddit discussed the apparent leak from 4Chan.
The original poster noted the following:
“Another 4chan post/leak another day, yes yes, but still, we need to talk about something.
“There are many reasons why Starfield was delayed, I don’t know anything about RedFall but for Starfield:
- Creation Kit is currently non-existent
- Series S performance is really bad – Microsoft didn’t greenlight the cloud-only option for it.
- A lot of content would need to be cut for the November release date.
- Spaceflight does not have AAA feel, Phil wants to change it.
- Todd wants a GOTY award for it and does not feel like he can win against Elden Ring.
- Still a big part of this year’s showcase”
As this leak originally comes from 4Chan it should certainly be taken with a grain of salt and is not definitive.
If it is true that the Series S console is the reason for the delay, then Series X RPG fans will NOT be happy to hear that!
We’ll hopefully hear more on the game’s delay over the coming months, with 2023 still the expected release date!
