Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 36 in April 2020.

Drew won the 2020 Royal Rumble match in January, earning a title shot against Brock Lesnar at WWE's biggest show of the year.

And the match happened, despite taking place at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with McIntyre winning his first world title.

The show took place at the WWE Performance Center in front of no fans, because of what was going on with the world at the time with COVID.

With no fans in attendance, McIntyre decided to look directly into the camera, physically reaching out to the fans at home, as you can see at the 5:29 mark in the video embedded above.

In the weeks that followed WrestleMania, Drew revealed that he actually broke one of Vince McMahon's WWE rules with his post-match celebration.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated in April 2020, Drew explained that WWE Superstars are told not to look directly down the camera by Vince McMahon, something that he did after his big title win.

One of our rules in WWE is that you don’t look down the camera and break the fourth wall, like you wouldn’t do in a movie, but I couldn’t help myself.

Drew went on to explain that with no fans in the arena for his big win, he felt like he had to look down the camera to feel that connection with them:

"In that moment, I just wanted to thank everybody for supporting me, for supporting WWE during this time and choosing WWE to take your mind off these difficult times. I wanted to let everyone know how I felt, and I’m so glad we kept that in the show. I wasn’t sure if it would be edited, because I really meant it.”

McIntyre went on to hold the WWE title until October 2020, dropping the belt to Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell.
