It seems like Jon Jones’ big moment is nearly upon us and we couldn’t be more excited.

The former light heavyweight has been preparing for a step up to the heavyweight class since his last fight in February 2020 - when he defended his title, that is, against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247.

He hasn’t taken to the Octagon since, putting in the hard yards to bulk up. Well, according to Yorgan De Castro, his training partner, he isn’t far off.

At 255lbs, which is just 10lbs shy of the heavyweight limit, it is only a matter of time before he makes his debut in the division.

Speaking to Trocacao Franca, he said: "He’s been waiting two years for this.

"He’s walking around at 255 pounds but is so strong and cardio will be the key. He has so much cardio. He hits pads for two hours and doesn’t slow down.

“You’re never comfortable with him in sparring. If you start to get comfortable with the hands, he wrestles you. If you want to get up, he throws elbows and knees. Not many people can do that at heavyweight. Everybody has heavy hands, but not many people can combine wrestling and jiu-jitsu and Jones’ versatility will make the difference.”

There was talk of a fight with current champion Francis Ngannou, however, it didn’t happen, owing to Jones’ £30 million asking price - as claimed by Dana White.

Now, a possible scenario is that with Ngannou sidelined, Jones could face Stipe Miocic for the interim title.

Should that happen, Castro has no doubts on who the winner will be.

“I don’t see anyone touching the man. His wrestling is very, very, very good. His jiu-jitsu is great. It’s hard to touch him [on the feet]. His distance is great. I don’t think I’ve touched him once. I walked forward and never touched him,” he said.

“I don’t see anyone else at heavyweight with a good enough wrestling or ground game. If they have good wrestling, Jones will be superior on the feet. The Stipe fight will be perfect. Stipe weighs the same and has good boxing.”
