Liverpool’s interest in West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen ‘is genuine’ following an outstanding season, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 25-year-old has reportedly caught the eye of the Reds’ hierarchy, who are said to be long-term admirers of his, although they could face stiff competition for his signature.

What is the latest news involving Bowen?

According to 90min, ‘initial discussions’ have already taken place between West Ham and Bowen over a new and improved contract as they look to reward him for his impressive form.

However, the report claims that Liverpool are keeping close tabs on the versatile attacker’s situation, while Newcastle United are also prepared to rival any potential suitor for his signature.

Bowen, who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, still has just over three years left to run on his current contract at the London Stadium, though, leaving the Hammers in a very strong position around the negotiating table.

But keeping Bowen out of Liverpool’s clutches may prove difficult for the capital club, as Jurgen Klopp could be in the market for another forward player this summer.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all out of contract in June 2023 and are yet to agree fresh terms, meaning there could be a considerable shake up at Anfield over the coming months.

What has Crook said about Bowen?

Liverpool brought in Luis Diaz from FC Porto in January, adding reinforcements in the final third of the pitch after Tottenham Hotspur registered an interest in the player.

And although Crook has revealed the Merseyside outfit are also keen on Bowen, he isn’t sure where the Englishman would ‘fit in’ following the 25-year-old’s arrival.

He told GiveMeSport: “I know Jurgen Klopp’s an admirer so that interest from Liverpool is genuine. But where does he fit in now that they've signed Diaz? They've got (Diogo) Jota obviously at the moment, Salah and Mane are still there, and so is Firmino.”

Do Liverpool need Bowen?

If one of Salah, Mane or Firmino leaves Liverpool, then Klopp will surely be forced to replace them, especially as Divock Origi is set to depart the club on a free transfer.

And based on his performances this season, Bowen could turn out to be a valuable addition to the German tactician’s setup.

In 50 appearances, the hard-working ace has registered 18 goals and 13 assists across all competitions, while he has 21 career Premier League goals to his name in total, firing West Ham to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool follow up their interest with a concrete offer, but Bowen appears to be ready to make the step up to a top-six club if the opportunity presents itself.
