Tottenham can do better than Paris Saint-Germain's Idrissa Gueye by signing a midfielder like N'Golo Kante, says talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

While Crook believes Spurs buying the 31-year-old from their London rivals Chelsea would be difficult, he wants to see them at least target such players rather than Gueye and still thinks they could.

What is the latest news involving Gueye and Kante?

According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux, PSG are looking to get rid of Gueye this summer, which has alerted Tottenham.

The same report states that the Senegal international, despite making over 30 appearances this season, is not indispensable to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

As for Kante, he is currently being linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Daily Mirror claiming that Erik ten Hag wants to make the World Cup winner his first signing at Old Trafford.

Kante is about to enter the final year of his contract, so Chelsea could have a decision to make in the upcoming transfer window.

What has Crook said about Gueye, Kante and Tottenham?

Crook has suggested that Kante would be a much better signing than Gueye for Tottenham but acknowledges that such a transfer is "impossible" because of the bad blood between Spurs and Chelsea.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the talkSPORT journalist said: "He was ok at Everton, but no more than that. He's not always guaranteed a place at Paris Saint-Germain, so I think they could probably do better, but it's such a key area. I mean, if they think they can get N'Golo Kante out of Chelsea, they would probably try, but history between those two clubs makes it impossible."

Should Tottenham make a move for Kante this summer?

They have nothing to lose. And with Kante out of contract next year, this could be the transfer window where Chelsea cash in on their star midfielder.

It is also a move that manager Antonio Conte would not be against having enjoyed working with the £290,000-a-week France international during his time in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

"He is amazing with and without the ball. When you have N'Golo in your team, you can think you are playing with one player more," the Italian told Sky Sports (via the Evening Standard) back in 2020.

"You can find a smile on his face every day. He is a very positive guy. He is one of the best players I have had in my career as a coach."

If there is an opportunity, there is no doubt that Conte will try and bring Kante to Hotspur Way. You suspect, though, that the ex-Blues manager may just have to settle for someone like Gueye instead.
