Mafia 4: Leak suggests game could be a prequel set in Sicily

Mafia 4 is set to be a prequel to the previous three instalments in the franchise and could be set in the late 19th or the early 20th century, according to a new leak.

Earlier this week, there was a new report claiming that 2K Games are working on a fourth entry into the Mafia franchise.

That game has not been officially titled but it is loosely titled Mafia 4, and that report claimed that the game will be a prequel.

Developer Hangar 13 and 2K have yet to confirm anything around a new Mafia game but insider Nick Baker has now brought some new information to light with a leak on the XboxEra Podcast.

He says that the game will either be set in the late 1800s or the early 1900s, and ll follow Don Salieri and his rise to power.

Salieri was a huge crime boss in the original Mafia game and players worked with him as they followed the journey of Tommy Angelo.

There is even said to be a hint that the game is going to be set in Italy, potentially Sicily, and will portray how Salieri rose up the ranks in his criminal enterprise.

Baker also made the claim that this could be a much more linear game than previous Mafia games, which have featured bustling open worlds.

The Mafia series began in 2002 with the sandbox third-person shooter, and was initially a PC-only game, although it was released on PS2 and Xbox in 2004. On Metacritic, it received an 88% score.

Mafia 2 followed in 2010, while the most recent instalment was Mafia 3, which released in 2016. Mafia 2 received 74% on Metacritic, while Mafia 3 received 62%.

The games have thus dwindled somewhat in quality, although a Definitive Edition was released in 2020 and received 76% on Metacritic.

Clearly that has sparked something of an upswing in terms of momentum, and we could now be getting more Mafia in the near future.

As ever, take anything leaked with a pinch of salt, especially as nothing has been confirmed, but we’ll keep you updated if any more information comes to light.
