Naomi Osaka’s four best investments have been named after she was announced as the highest-paid female athlete in the world.Sports business website Sportico ranked the tennis star as the 20th highest-paid athlete with earnings of $53.2 million (£43m) across the past year. Serena Williams, the only other sportswoman on the list, was ranked 52nd.Osaka, who has equity in more than a dozen brands and has her own skincare range, also has endorsement deals with Nissan, Tag Heuer and Louis Vuitton.Following the announcement, sports business journalist Andrew Petcash listed Osaka’s most savvy investments.

Sweetgreen

Osaka became Sweetgreen’s youngest ever investor in May 2021. A long-time customer of the healthy fast-food brand, the 24-year-old revealed she was “proud” of the partnership.

“As an athlete, what I put into my body directly correlates to how I perform and eating delicious, healthy foods fuels my daily routine,” said Osaka. “I’m excited about the work we’re doing together to create a positive impact.”

According to Petcash, Sweetgreen had a valuation of ​​$3 billion (£2.4bn) in November.

Hyperice

Osaka joined Lindsey Vonn, Patrick Mahomes and Trae Young as an investor in Hyperice in August 2019.

“When I first started using Hyperice, I immediately noticed a difference in how loose yet strong my body felt,” said Osaka.

“I feel it is my duty as a professional athlete to educate my peers on the importance of taking recovery seriously.”

The recovery and performance technology brand increased its revenue from $10m to $200m (£8m to £160m) in three years, and is closing in on a $1bn (£800m) valuation.

North Carolina Courage

Osaka became a minority stake owner in the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage in January 2021.

"The women who have invested in me growing up made me who I am today, I don't know where I would be without them," she wrote on Twitter.

"Throughout my career I've always received so much love from my fellow female athletes, so that's why I am proud to share that I am now an owner of the NC Courage."

A number of high-profile athletes own stakes in football clubs, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Serena Williams.

BodyArmor

In 2019, Osaka invested in sports drink company BodyArmor alongside basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

“I’m excited to join a brand that’s as competitive and innovative in its field as I try to be on the court,” she said.

Last year, Coke brough BodyArmor for $8bn (£6.4bn), the company’s biggest acquisition in history.
