Rashawn Slater had a brilliant reaction to hearing about Khalil Mack trade

Rashawn Slater of the Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Rashawn Slater had a pretty funny response to the team trading for Khalil Mack this past offseason.

The Los Angeles Chargers showed all the promise last season that you would hope for a team who look to challenge for a Super Bowl in the very near future, guided by Justin Herbert on offence as he looked to settle into the league in just his second season.

They were even in with an outside shot at a playoff berth, going into the final week of the season in with a chance of qualifying, only to be knocked off by the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime.

One thing that really let them down though was their defence, which was ranked 23rd in the league in terms of yards given up with a total of 6,122 and could only register 35 sacks, something that they wanted to address this offseason.

The Mack Attack

As a result, they traded away a 2nd round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and a 6th round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears in order to bring in pass-rusher Mack.

In his 8 years in the league so far, he has racked up 76.5 sacks in the regular season, reaching double digits four times and could have made it five were it not for an injury that he sustained last season.

So to get him on board could be a huge difference-maker for this side as they look to take the next step forward.

And Rashawn Slater wanted to make sure he was ready for what was coming his way, even in the strangest location.

Where do the Pittsburgh Steelers play?

Never a bad time to prep

Slater, a 1st round pick by the Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft, was recently speaking at one of their offseason programs, and was talking about what he was doing when he heard the news that they had traded for Mack.

His answer…? Turns out he was on his honeymoon with his wife in Bora Bora, and knowing that he would have to take on Mack every day in training, got right to work getting himself in decent shape to have to block him:

His wife was even able to provide the evidence to back him up:

Makes you wonder if any linemen on the Chargers’ opponents did the same when they heard the news, because when they go up against him it’ll be for real rather than just in practice.
