Tottenham can't turn down the opportunity to sign Christian Eriksen on a free, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte's side have been strongly linked with the 111-cap Denmark international following his impressive form since returning to the Premier League with Brentford in January.

What's the latest news involving Eriksen?

90min revealed last month that Spurs were confident of re-signing Eriksen, less than three years after he left for Inter Milan, although a return to north London hinges on whether they qualify for the Champions League.

However, while they're now within one point of a place back in Europe's elite competition, Eriksen recently said that signing for a Champions League club is not 'essential', although the 30-year-old would love to play in the competition once again after doing so just four times for Inter.

But with Eriksen available on a free transfer, Spurs face stiff competition from a host of their Premier League rivals for the Dane's signature, with Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle West Ham, and Brentford all interested in a permanent transfer.

Tottenham have re-signed players in the past, including Younes Kaboul, Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, and Gareth Bale, and while some of those haven't worked out, Jones doesn't think that Conte's team can pass up the chance to bring back Eriksen, who he described as "ridiculous".

What did Jones say about Eriksen?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "There's a general rule in football that is don't go back, but in this sense Eriksen can be a rule break because he's ridiculous and this isn't your normal situation that has opened up.

How has Eriksen performed for Brentford?

It really has been a sensational two-and-a-half months since Eriksen was able to return to football following his cardiac arrest.

In his nine Premier League starts, he's scored once and chipped in with four assists, including two in his last two games.

During that period, Eriksen has claimed three man of the match awards, a record bettered only by Ivan Toney (5) in the Bees squad. As a result, Brentford have picked up seven wins with him in the starting XI, compared to just six in the other 27 games that the midfielder hasn't featured.

If Eriksen can continue this form heading into next season, it's a no brainer for Tottenham to bring him back.
