Take-Two have confirmed that they aren’t interested in taking up the FIFA brand after EA Sports announced that it would be abandoning the name.

EA confirmed last week that it is set to be branded as EA Sports FC in the future, and there is now the potential of another developer picking up the FIFA name.

IGN has spoken with Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick before the company earnings call and asked if the company were interested in taking on FIFA’s branding.

Essentially, he said no.

He said: "We're definitely interested in expanding our opportunities in sports, and FIFA has a great brand and incredible clout, but we have no current plans to discuss.”

Take-Two has a history of publishing sports titles, and is the current flagship for both NBA video games and WWE video games. They also have a variety of golfing titles under their umbrella.

FIFA will remain in EA’s hands for the upcoming FIFA 23, which is likely to release later this year, but after that, the games will turn to EA Sports FC.

By comparison, FIFA have confirmed that they intend to keep releasing games under the FIFA name but they have yet to give any indication as to who they will partner with to make that happen.

Take-Two, per IGN, are pretty busy already.

They are set to release 18 games this year, including games such as The Quarry, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, WWE 2K23 and NBA 2K23.

FIFA’s branding is also likely to prove incredibly expensive to acquire, and it remains to be seen exactly what form those games would take when they do eventually come out, especially given that EA Sports FC will be retaining a number of licences, such as the Premier League, in the future. We’ll keep you updated if there’s any more information about the future of FIFA games.
