Celtic will look to make 'two more decent signings' at Parkhead

Ange Postecoglou celebrates winning the Scottish Premiership title with Celtic

Celtic will probably look to make ‘two more decent signings’ after securing Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The duo joined the Hoops on season-long loan deals last summer that included the option to buy and are expected to remain at Parkhead after impressing throughout the current campaign.

What is the latest news involving Celtic?

It’s been a memorable 2021/22 for Celtic, who claimed the Scottish League Cup and reclaimed their Scottish Premiership title under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Greek-Australian tactician won over the club’s supporters following a slow start to his reign and has successfully overhauled the first-team squad, bringing in no fewer than 17 signings since his arrival.

And Jota has been one of Postecoglou’s most successful acquisitions, registering 13 goals and 14 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Celtic are believed to have the option to make the 23-year-old’s stay in Glasgow permanent if they stump up £6 million for the Benfica ace, while Carter-Vickers will cost them around £10m.

The Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate was a mainstay for Postecoglou’s charges throughout his loan spell, making 46 outings and finding the back of the net on four occasions.

What has Jones said about Celtic?

Carter-Vickers could become Celtic’s record purchase if they pay the agreed fee to Spurs for his signature.

Nevertheless, Jones believes Postecoglou will still look to make a couple of further additions over the summer even if they manage to sign the USA international and Jota permanently.

He told GiveMeSport: “I fully expect, especially with Rangers having success in Europe, that they’ll have an understanding that, ‘we can’t rest on our laurels here’.

“And they will look to probably make two more decent signings on top of those two.”

Who else could Celtic sign?

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are on the verge of securing a £2m deal for Hammarby left-back Mohanad Jeahze.

And the Daily Mail (via the Daily Record) claim that Bodo/Glimt forward Ola Solbakken has been identified as a cheaper alternative to Jota should the deal for the former Portugal Under-21 international fall through.

Meanwhile, French outlet L’Equipe (via the Daily Record) state an initial offer of €3m (£2.5m) has reportedly been put on the table by the Celtic hierarchy for SM Caen striker Alexandre Mendy.

It remains to do be seen if Postecoglou can get any of these deals over the line, but it looks to be shaping up to be another busy summer for Celtic.
