Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would love to sign Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

After missing out on a top-four finish and Champions League football, United's squad is now likely to be overhauled ahead of the 2022/23 season.

What is the latest news involving De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski?

De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski have all been in the headlines recently.

According to Sky Italia, De Ligt is close to signing a new contract at Juventus, which would rule out a transfer to United or any other club this summer.

Meanwhile, compatriot De Jong is being linked with a move away from Barcelona, with The Guardian claiming that Ten Hag has made him a target.

As for Lewandowski, he definitely looks open to joining a new side in the upcoming transfer window. The Bayern Munich striker recently told Sky Germany (via Sky Sports): "I said to [Hasan Salihamidzic] that if an offer comes, then we have to think about it - also for the club. Both sides have to think about the future. That's all I can say."

What has Jones said about De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that he thinks De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski would be Ten Hag's three ideal signings for United. However, for the football journalist, it is an "impossible dream".

Speaking to GMS, he said: "If he could dream the impossible dream, then I think he'd get Matthijs de Ligt at the back, Frenkie de Jong in midfield and Robert Lewandowski up front.

"That would be an ultimate dream to fix three situations in this team and get them back in the top four and competing for trophies, but it's just not realistic."

Who are United more likely to sign out of De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski?

Having worked with both De Ligt and De Jong at Ajax, Ten Hag signing the £126m-rated Dutch duo makes a lot of sense.

It would also not be a surprise if United tried to make a move for £45m-rated Lewandowski, with Ralf Rangnick stating back in February that the Red Devils need to bring in a new striker.

However, with De Ligt set to sign a new contract at the Allianz Stadium and United not in the Champions League next term, the 22-year-old centre-back and Lewandowski are probably unrealistic targets for Ten Hag.

Prising De Jong away from Barcelona could also be difficult, with the midfielder happy there, but with the Spanish side having financial trouble, you would not completely rule it out.

So while De Ligt, De Jong and Lewandowski would be the dream, only the second of that trio looks attainable for United.
