Tottenham target Idrissa Gueye could be an "upgrade" on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is currently being linked with a move to Hotspur Way, and Jones thinks he would be a good fit for Antonio Conte's side.

What is the latest news involving Gueye?

Jeunes Footeux recently reported that Tottenham are monitoring Gueye's situation at PSG.

According to them, the French giants are open to the idea of the 32-year-old leaving the Parc des Princes this summer, a development that has caught Spurs' attention.

Gueye is out of contract next year, so this could very well be the transfer window where PSG decide to sell him.

The 90-cap Senegal international, who joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Everton back in 2019, has made over 30 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season.

What has Jones said about Gueye to Tottenham?

Jones likes the sound of Gueye moving to Tottenham and has suggested that he could be an upgrade on Hojbjerg in the middle of the park.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: "With Idrissa Gueye being linked, I can understand why he might be a fit because he wears his heart on his sleeve and he's a great midfielder. He would seem to fit, and you would imagine they're looking for an upgrade on Hojbjerg."

Premier League Final Day: Predictions, Scenarios and More

Would Gueye be a good signing for Tottenham?

Yes. He has plenty of experience at the highest level, playing in the Premier League, Champions League and Ligue 1, while he is also the sort of midfielder who would bring more bite to Spurs in the centre.

This season, Gueye has averaged 2.4 tackles per league game, putting him behind only Marco Verratti in PSG's squad (more than five games played, via WhoScored).

The former Everton man is also in the top three when it comes to interceptions, averaging one a match.

Considering that, and the fact that PSG are likely to sell him for cheap given his contract situation, Gueye could be a very smart piece of business for Tottenham.

Whether he would be coming in to take Hojbjerg's place in Conte's XI or play alongside him, the north London club could do with that extra body as they prepare for a return to either the Champions League or Europa League.

Gueye's time at the Parc des Princes looks to be up, so perhaps a switch back to England this summer really could be on the cards.
